Saturday, the day after Segovia, my family and I bummed around Madrid and took a hop on hop off bus tour The highlights of That Day Were as Follows (in no particular order):
. 1 Seeing some Dali Guernica and works with my dad in the Reina Sofia.
2 Good Mexican food!
Three. Yummy kiwi daiquiris with my madre (my spanish is improving..but not really)
4. Seeing an Egyptian Temple in Madrid with my family (shipped from Egypt and put together stone by stone )
5. Seeing my little brother laugh hysterically at the kids station on the tour bus because the narrator was making cat jokes, maybe he's not growing up too fast.
6. DELICIOUS ITALIAN FOOD. (Went there again for lunch today with my roommates. )
7 (Honestly I Waited too long to write this and my days are blurring so it may have been after Segovia) Seeing the Madrid Opera and Symphony play a free concert in Plaza Mayor for the World Basketball Championship in Madrid.
Sunday was tough. I moved into my host family. I LOVE THEM. They are so sweet and my roommates are all so nice. But it was extremely tough saying goodbye to my family for four months. Tears were shed, lots of hugs, very sad. :( I'm not trying to go into it or I will get sad again. (They made it safely back from Portugal to New York last night.)
My host family's names are Ana and Juan. They are absolutely lovely (Ana took us all to school the first morning on the Metro and Juan met us there, then they 'Proceeded to take about 1000 first day of school pictures) I am sharing a room with Megan. The food is great, the location is wonderful, my classes are all fine (boring but fine) (I am taking Colonial Latin America, Oceanography, Islam: Religion and Culture, and Photography), the only thing I'd change is the heat . It has been 94-100 degrees all week and there are very few air conditioners in Spain. So trying to sleep at night is impossible sometimes. I should have packed more winter clothes and less summer clothes! There are six girls living here, we have breakfast and dinner provided everyday (so delicious). Megan and my room faces a small courtyard, the other rooms face the street, so ours is a bit quieter. We have no trips planned yet but we are working on that tonight I hope.
So far only info we have done one student life event, we went to a tapas night. The company was great, the food was .... the company was great. Let's just say it is not necessarily a restaurant we need to go back to.
Well thats about it for now! I have a trip to the coast with my oceanography class in a few weeks and we may hit up the zoo in Madrid this weekend, other than that no big plans yet. But I'll keep ya posted :)
